Devotion to the merciful and loving Heart of Our Blessed Lord was very dear to our Venerable Foundress.
In her instructions to the Sisters, Catherine urged them to be Christ-like in carrying out their ministries, frequently reminding them that: “there are things which the poor prize more highly than gold, though they cost the donor nothing: among these are the kind word, the gentle compassionate look, and the patient hearing of their sorrows”.
Were Catherine to instruct us today, she could well remind us of the words of the Prophet Isaiah:
“Deal your bread to the hungry, and bring the needy and harbourless into your house…….and then you shall call and the Lord will answer you, cry and he will say, I am here”.
(Is. 58: 7,9 )
