Spirituality of the Sisters

Today, our life is about: Community and Commitment. The Sisters get their inspiration and strength from their spiritual life.  Faith and Prayer is central to a life of dedication to Mercy and is at the heart of everything the Sisters do.

We are committed to living community based on:

  1. Gospel values and
  2. Mercy Spirituality

The Congregation’s Motto:

“My Legacy to the Institute is charity: if you preserve the peace and union, which has never been violated among us, you will feel a happiness that will surprise you.”

Catherine McAuley

Our life is about prayer -  Our relationship with:

  1. God
  2. Self
  3. Others
  4. The Earth

In Prayer we seek to discover the presence of God In self and others.

Our Personal and Community Prayer is inspired by: The word of God in scripture.

With Catherine McAuley we pray:

“God of my heart, my whole desire and only portion consists in loving you.  To you I devote myself without any reserve and forever.”

The Sisters of Mercy of the Union of Great Britain

The Sisters identify strongly with the region’s mandala, for which a rationale is provided on the Mercy World website. As such, the proposed design links to the feeling and spirit of this mandala. A overriding sense of life and light infuses the design. The key visual element in the background radiates colour and energy, yet is also feminine and gentle. Sweeping curves intersect through the design, emphasising a sense of soft interlacing, a woven interconnectedness. The navigation, located at the top, follows the curves of the upper and lower borders. The images selected tell a brief story of the Sisters as a group of women, connected to their history and foundress, and to people with whom they share their lives. The mandala appears as a central element in the design. A simple, classic serif typeface has been used throughout. Leaves, in the background of the screen, connect to a sense of life and growth.
